Media Literacy

Along with my passion for creating media, I have developed a research interest in media literacy and education. I feel a strong social responsibility as a creative to improve our current media landscape, and I believe the best way to do so is to give power back to our society's most vulnerable. I feel particularly called to empower young people and children to create their own stories and engage critically with media. Below you will find some of the work I've done to provide quality media education to underserved young people.

Boys, Girls, and Storytelling in Movies

I created this virtual learning resource for parents of elementary aged children as part of my senior research project on the role of children in creative development for animation. These two lesson plans teach children about creativity, storytelling, and media literacy.

Out of the Bedroom!

Created for an interdisciplinary seminar on Girls' Studies, Out of the Bedroom! is a hub of tutorials and resources designed to empower girls to tell their own stories creatively. I built the website as well as produced some of the instructional content.

Girls Rock Charlotte

In the summer of 2020, I designed interactive instructional materials for Girls Rock Charlotte's first ever virtual filmmaking camp. I also served as Junior Executive Producer, providing direct mentorship to campers.

Druid City Girls Media Program

For three consecutive summers, I interned with this nonprofit providing media literacy and video production education to middle school girls in Tuscaloosa, AL. In the summer of 2020, I developed curriculum and led instruction for our first ever virtual summer camp.
